Introduction

The VIHS Scholarship Program is established to recognize and reward exceptional academic performance in O Level/IGCSE/SSC or equivalent examinations, as well as outstanding achievements in sports and co-curricular activities recognized by the Ministry of Education’s Activity Calendar. This policy outlines the eligibility criteria, selection procedures, and terms and conditions for awarding scholarships.


Category 1: Brilliant Student Scholarships

This scholarship is merit-based and awarded to students with high academic achievement in their O Level/IGCSE/SSC or equivalent examinations. Evaluation will be based on the best eight subject grades, using the following point scale:

To be eligible:

  • Applicants must score a minimum of 410 points.
  • Must enroll in Dhivehi, Islam, and at least three subjects (Edexcel/Cambridge IAL) at VIHS.

Note: If the number of eligible candidates exceeds the allocated budget, recipients will be selected through a lottery draw.


Category 2: Sports and Co-curricular Scholarships

This scholarship is awarded to students who achieved 1st or 2nd place in individual/team events in inter-school or national level competitions recognized in the Ministry of Education's Activity Calendar during Grade 9 or 10.

  • Award amount: MVR 500 per month
  • A student winning multiple competitions will still receive a maximum of MVR 500 per month.
  • This category is limited to 10% of the total VIHS scholarship budget.
  • If the number of eligible applicants exceeds the budget, selection will be made via a lottery draw.

Application Deadline

Scholarships are awarded only to those who submit their applications by the deadline stated on the application form. Please note that recheck results will not be considered in the selection process.


Commencement of Scholarship Benefits

Scholarship financial benefits will begin from the start of Semester 1.


Terms and Conditions

  1. Only officially registered students at VIHS are eligible to apply.
  2. Students eligible for multiple scholarships will receive only the higher-value award.
  3. Scholarship recipients must maintain a minimum attendance of 80% in 5 subjects every month. Failure to meet this requirement in any subject will result in the discontinuation of the scholarship.
  4. For Category 1 recipients, students must maintain a minimum average grade of B in 5 subjects each semester. Failure to do so will lead to termination of the scholarship.
  5. Category 1 recipients are required to continue studying Dhivehi, Islam, and at least three subjects, and must appear for A Level terminal examinations. Non-compliance will result in the revocation of the scholarship.
  6. Category 2 recipients must study minimum three subjects and must obtain 80% attendance and maintain D grade and above in three subjects to continue the scholarship.



Qasim Ibrahim Scholarship for Excellence

1. Introduction

The Qasim Ibrahim Scholarship for Excellence is established to recognize and reward outstanding academic achievement in the Maldives O’Level National Top Ten rankings, while supporting the pursuit of advanced education at VIHS.

2. Availability

  • A total of 30 scholarships will be awarded under this category.
  • Scholarships are available for students commencing their studies in Grade 11 at VIHS in September 2025.

3. Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Ranked 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in the National Top Ten list of SSC and IGCSE O’Level Examinations, as recognized by the Ministry of Education.
  • Must be an officially registered student of VIHS.
  • Selection will be based strictly on merit, according to the official ranking.
  • If more than 30 students qualify with equal scores, a lottery (random draw) will be conducted to finalize the 30 recipients.
  • Each recipient will be granted full tuition fee exemption.
  • Recipients shall remain liable for the application fee, registration fee, activity fee, and any additional charges not covered under the scholarship.

4. Terms and Conditions

The scholarship shall remain valid only if recipients comply with the following requirements:

4.1 Enrollment

  • The recipient must remain enrolled as a student of VIHS.

4.2 Exclusivity

  • Students awarded the Qasim Ibrahim Scholarship for Excellence will not be eligible for the Brilliance Scholarship or Sports Scholarships.
  • Students qualifying for multiple scholarships will be awarded only the highest-valued scholarship.

4.3 Attendance

  • A minimum of 80% attendance in each subject must be maintained every month.

4.4 Academic Performance

  • Recipients must achieve an average grade of “B” or above in at least five subjects per semester.

4.5 Subject Requirements

  • Recipients must continue to study Dhivehi, Islam, and at least three stream subjects, and must appear for the A Level terminal examinations.

4.6 Termination

  • The scholarship may be terminated if the recipient fails to comply with any of the above conditions.
